Description
This variety of Pepino Dulce was originally obtained by Charles Portney from Adam Wolf in the early 1990’s. This is one of two varieties that has a sweet, complex refreshing taste when used as a melon. It is essentially a melon with very thin skin that you can grow with tomato cages in a five-gallon pot or the ground. It is able to last 3-5 years if pruned back in late Winter but can be grown as an annual with easy propagation with cuttings taken at any time. The fruit has lovely purple stripes as it matures and is ripe when it starts to get a golden color and give extremely slightly when gently squeezed. It fruits from late Spring into the early to mid-winter months.
Not sold in nurseries and hard to obtain. This variety seems to be obtained mainly through CRFG.
